Two juniors from Kern Valley High School were awarded Student of the Month for their stellar progress in their academic studies.  The students spoke during the luncheon at Paradise Cove Lodge at the Kern Valley Exchange Club meeting, Thursday March 14.

Principal of the high school Alan Paradise introduced both of the students.

Student Kassandra Guarneros is an asset to her school. Paradise said, “You see her on campus, she always has a smile on her face.”

Kassandra is active in cross-country, soccer, track and cheerleading.  She is ranked number one in her junior class, with all honors and advanced placement classes.  She received the MBE soccer award at Winter Sports Awards and the academic award.

“It’s an honor to be representing my school,” Kassandra said.

She told the Exchange Club she plans to go to a four-year university, hopefully in Northern Arizona. Her favorite subject is chemistry and she hopes to study science, particularly geology or forensic science in college.  She’s considering becoming a forensic pathologist. She’s also ASB vice president.

Student Glendale Gutierrez is ranked number one among male students at the high school for the junior year, Mr. Paradise told the group. Glendale is a junior class officer.  He’s very involved in the Spanish club, track, and soccer.  “He’s a student that is well liked by everyone,” said Principal Paradise.

“I can’t thank you guys enough for allowing me to be recognized for my hard work,” said Glendale.  ” I remember those late nights up at 1am studying for chemistry and doing that Spanish homework. It’s really nice to be appreciated for what we’ve been doing at school. I’m also appreciative of my high school.”

Glendale plans to go to college and wants to study mechanical engineering or civil engineering, possibly at UC Davis or UC Santa Barbara. He likes math and building things.

On behalf of Kern Valley Exchange Club, president John Blythe awarded both students financial contributions, and certificates of Youth of the Month, for outstanding academic achievement
