The Kern Valley girls soccer team made it all the way to the semi-finals of the CIF Central Section D-VI Tournament, losing to a tough Riverdale team. In defeat, many of the Lady Broncs played like champions, and among them was freshman goalie Scarlett Weber, who kept Kern Valley in the game, making 12 acrobatic and skillful saves. Riverdale was a scoring machine this season, scoring 96 goals on the year and was relentless on the attack, but Weber stood in with strong play.

Kern Valley soccer coach Scott Armes said, “Our freshman goalie Scarlett Weber was a pillar of strength and inspiration for us. She played left wing all season and had to step up to goalie for the CIFs. She had some amazing saves to keep us in the game.”

Zack Wargo had a big 2023 baseball season for Kern valley and he started the 2024 campaign where he left off, leading the Broncs to two huge victories to start the season. In the opener vs. Mojave, Wargo was the starting and winning pitcher, striking out nine of the 10 Mustang batters he faced, throwing three hitless innings, walking one. At the plate, Wargo has a monster game as well, going 5-for-5, with five RBIs, five runs scored and a double. His fifth hit was also the 50th career hit as a Kern Valley varsity player.

In the second game of opening week, versus Laton, Wargo went 1-for-2, walked twice and scored three runs.
