Jennie Lynn Goodrich passed away on October 25, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, compassion, and love for the natural world.
Born and raised in Richmond and the San Francisco Bay Area, Jennie was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy Goodrich and by her siblings James French, Patricia Brendlinger, Yvonne Tatti, and Doreen Freeland. She was part of a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Jennie attended Sonoma State University, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology, linguistics, and biology. During her time there, she served as a staff ethnologist and directed historical, cultural, environmental, and community projects. She authored Kashya Pomo Plants, an ethnobotanical book published through the Regents of the University of California, American Indian Studies. Her lifelong interest in the relationship between people, plants, and cultures included Native American plant uses, Western flora, and European herbal medicine.
Later, Jennie discovered her passion for nursing. Beginning as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, she continued her education and earned her Registered Nurse credentials through California State University, Bakersfield, in 1994. Her nursing career included work at several facilities in the Ojai area, Mercy Hospital, and Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. She combined her love of caring for others with education, serving as a staff educator, Versant instructor, and charge nurse.
Jennie loved gardening, hiking, nature, and history. She eventually found her home in Lake Isabella, where she could enjoy all of these passions. She also cherished the many friendships she developed through her years attending Calvary Chapel in Wofford Heights.
Jennie lived by her personal creed: Love, peace, caring, and becoming a better being. These values were reflected in her dedication to helping others, her curiosity about the world, and the way she lived her life.
Jennie will be fondly remembered for her intelligence, compassion, dedication, and love of life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched.
