I am Elouise Alexander, a long time resident of the Kern River Valley for over 36 years. I held the position of secretary/bookkeeper for 22 of those years. I currently reside in Emmett Idaho and my wishes are to share my recollections of my time serving the cemetery district and the community of the Kern River Valley. I am thankful to Trudy Pascoe for sending me the June 19th edition of the Kern Valley Sun. I am concerned to learn of the recent happenings of the cemetery board of trustees recent actions.
I am eternally grateful to have had two Christian managers, Paul Flemming for 15 years and Randy Kyt for 7 years. I gave my notice of retirement June 2006. Randy received an application from Laura Fitchie, wishing to relocate from Sacramento. She interviewed with the board and all were pleased to learn she was a gifted computer wizard. She was hired.
I have witnessed from knowing Randy, first his integrity, his faith, and devotion to his family. As manager, he always strived to make improvements. His temperament is without fault. He always gave his time searching for solutions, solving problems, and serving the community to the best of his ability; namely, the years long water problem that still remains.
As for Richard Wolf’s input, kudos to him; his comments were spot on. Richard was groundskeeper and maintained the Old Historical Cemetery as well as 4 sections of the main grounds. He often needed help and he and Randy made a great team.
The residents of the valley deserve a peaceful and beautifully maintained place for the memorialization of their loved ones. I , personally, have my parents, my husband, and other close loved ones laid to rest there, as well as myself when the time comes.
After learning that Laura was prepared to have all necessary items presented for review really makes me question the position of the board. How did this protect the working order of the office or the maintenance of the grounds in hot weather? Not to mention the position that the Mortuary was put in as well, with Kay Ferry not being able to bury her mother on June 10th.
I’m sure residents of the Kern River Valley are looking for a speedy solution which should allow Randy and Laura to resume their jobs until they are informed of any legal action and to properly educate their predecessors.
I know Randy and Laura are two of the most trustworthy , God loving people you would want representing the Kern River Valley Cemetery District.
I write this in my memory of the love of living 36 years in Weldon Ca. – A very good and happy life.
Respectfully,
Elouise Alexander
P.S. As of yesterday, I received the newest edition of the KV Sun announcing the newly hired replacements. I regret not submitting my comments more quickly. I’m wishing the very best to the recovery of the Kern River Valley Cemetery District.
