Lady Colts volleyball team takes tournament championship

The Wallace Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team competed in the Cerro Coso College volleyball tournament this past Saturday. They would be crowned the champion with a dominating performance.
The tournament final was a rematch with the team from Monroe. It was the serving accuracy that provided the fuel to victory. The Lady Colts only missed 10 of the 48 serves made in the match. They would also record 10 aces in the two-set championship match. Wallace took control of the match with a decisive 25-15 win in the initial set. The second set was battle, that the Lady Colts would complete the sweep to the championship. The second set score was 25-22.
Charlet Eastes led the charge as she delivered three service aces in the match. Three Lady Colts finished with a pair of aces. Maddoxx Armes, Ashley Martinez, and Emma Alfred each recorded two aces. Wrapping up the service aces was Savannah Olague with one. At the net, Wallace was credited with seven kills. Skylar Olloa and Alfred shared the team lead with a pair of kills. Chloe Smoot, Olague and Eastes had one kill apiece.
Wallace began the championship drive by taking on Murray. The match was never in doubt as they took the first set 25-5. They finished off the match with a 25-11 win to advance in the tournament. Once more it came down to minimum service errors that propelled the Lady Colts. With only five errors and 41 serves put in play led to the easy transition of the defense. Martinez was the ace leader as she was credited with five in the match. Armes followed with four, while Smoot finished with three aces. Ulloa wrapped up the service game as she delivered one ace.
Smoot led her Lady Colts teammates at the net with three kills. Alfred connected on a pair of kills, while Dani Brooks and Ulloa each had one kill. With this victory the Wallace squad advanced and would go up against the Monroe team for a chance to advance to the finals of the tournament.
It was another dominating performance by the Lady Colts as they swept the match in two sets. The opening set was a 25-10 win, while the second set score was 25-15. As was they theme of this tournament, serving played a huge part in claiming the tournament. Of the 46 serves in the match only seven were missed. Within that they collected 11 aces as a team. Leading the way was Olague with eight aces. She was followed by Brooks who delivered five aces. Eastes had four, while Armes and Martinez each had one ace. Only one kill was recorded in the match by the Lady Colts. Eastes was credited with the lone kill in the match.
Wallace now had to play the waiting game as who they would face in the championship match. It would end up being a familiar opponent as they would once again face the team from Monroe. They drifted into the finals and would have the favorable outcome, bringing home the championship plaque.
