Kern Valley’s jayvee softball team exploded for 16 runs to collect the win over the Lady Cougars.
With the offense rolling the pitching and defense did their part. McFarland was limited to just eight runs in the contest. The final score favored Kern Valley 16-8.
This game was played on the road in McFarland on March 7.
Leading the charge was Reba Dimeglio with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Summer Santos and Ayla Lyon each contributed a single and one RBI, while Charlotte Hafenfeld recorded and RBI. Eve Burrows, Avery Valdez, and Karsyn Liske delivered one hit apiece.
In the circle the pitching of Shelby Griffen gave the Lady Broncs a stellar effort striking out eight batters in the game.
Head coach Amanda LaFraga said, “Amazing base running resulted in a majority of runs from stolen bases.”
Later in that same week, Kern Valley played a pair of games in an HDL round robin. They would face off against Rosamond and Bishop. These games were played in Rosamond on March 9.
The Lady Broncs delivered a win over Rosamond, but dropped the close decision to Bishop. Kern Valley beat the Lady Roadrunners 22-10, but fell 11-10 to the Lady Broncos.
The high scoring affair with Rosamond produced 14 hits for the Lady Broncs. This team also belted out a pair of doubles.
The team was led by Hafenfeld with three hits and an RBI. Burrows and Lyon each had two hits, including a two-bagger. They would also drive in three runs apiece. Valdez contributed a pair of hits and an RBI, while Santos recorded two hits. Dimeglio and Griffen each collected a single and one RBI, while Isabelle Mosqueda had one hit in the game.
Griffen helped her team from the circle as she struck out six Rosamond batters.
On that same day, the Lady Broncs battled Bishop. The back and forth game produced 21 runs. Unfortunately, Kern Valley came up one run short against their league rival.
Burrows was the leading hitter for the Lady Broncs with two. Mosqueda and Lyon had one hit each and one run driven in apiece.
Grffen recorded eight strikeouts in the contest.
On March 12, Kern Valley made another road trip to Woodlake.
This proved to be another high scoring contest. Unfortunately, the Lady Broncs were on the wrong side of the scoring ledger. The final score went against Kern Valley 17-12.
No other information was made available for this game.
Kern Valley began HDL play on Tuesday as they were at home in a rematch with Bishop. On Friday they will entertain Mammoth in another HDL contest.
