Former Bronc Dedmon makes mark at next level

Former Bronc breaks record for Bakersfield College track team.

Daimon Dedmon, a 2023 Kern Valley graduate has made his mark in the long jump. This past week, he competed at the Southern California Regional meet at Cerritos College. Dedmon took off and leapt 26’ 2 ¼” in the event. This mark broke a record. Dedmon also competed in the 100m. He ran to a sixth-place finish in a time of 10.77. 

The leap in the triple jump was also a Bakersfield College school record. According to BC head coach Pam Kelly, Dedmon’s mark also was an Under-20 qualifier and an Olympic trial provisional mark.

Dedmon commented on his achievement, “I broke a school and meet record with a jump of 7.98m (26’ 2”) last week which ranks me top five in the world for under-20 athletes and top 15 jumpers in all of the United States.”

Next up for the former Kern Valley athlete, will be the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships at Saddleback College. The competition will take place this weekend. He will be joined at the state meet with four other BC teammates.
