Junior softball sweeps games versus Bishop

Kern Valley’s Junior Little League softball team started strong as they swept a pair of games from Bishop.

The offense proved to be up to the task as they scored a total of 30 runs in the double header. The long trip to get top the games in Bishop did not deter the Broncs from grabbing both games. In game one Kern Valley was a 13-7 winner. They came back and used the broom to win 17-1.

In game one, Kern Valley began the scoring with four runs in the first. They added three more in the second inning. When the second inning was complete the score was sitting at 7-1. Kern Valley then added four in the third and finished it off with a pair of runs in the fourth to secure the victory.

As a team, Kern Valley banged out 13 hits in the game. Three players each had two hits. Gabby, Jade, and Teagan recorded two hits apiece. Joining the hit parade with one hit each were Emmy, Kenadie, Bibbie, Josie, Ashley, Brenna, and Bella. Jade came around to score three times, while Teagan and Josie crossed the plate twice each.

In game two a strong start pushed Kern Valley to the dominating win. Kern Valley opened the contest by scoring 15 runs. They topped off the scoring with two in the third to claim the game and earn the sweep over Bishop. 

It was another 13-hit game for the Kern Valley bats. They would also receive nine free passes to circle the bases 17 times. Five players each were credited with two hits. Gabby, Emmy, Kenadie, Kiera, and Amber recorded a pair of hits for Kern Valley. Getting one hit apiece were Josie, Ashley, and Brenna.

Every player in the line up scored at least one run for Kern Valley. These games were played in Bishop on April 20.

A week earlier, Kern Valley collected a 7-1 victory over Tehachapi. For the first five innings, Kern Valley was holding a slim 1-0 margin. In the top of sixth, Kern Valley got the bats rolling as they scored three times to put the cushion at 4-0. They would add three more runs in the seventh to close out the game. Tehachapi scored their lone run ion the bottom of the seventh.

Kenadie was the top hitter for Kern Valley as she had two. This included smashing a triple in the game. Jade and Gabby each had two hits in the contest. Amber, Josie, Brenna, and Naomi delivered one hit apiece for Kern Valley.
