The young Kern Valley team took it on the chin as they continued to play against much more experienced and higher ranked high schools. The final score was 58-0.
This past Friday the team traveled to the coast to take on Mission College Prep. This team is in San Luis Obispo. The Broncs got to play on the California Polytechnic Institute (Cal Poly) field. The college field experience was a new twist to the season for the Broncs team.
The Royals were able to score at will and make it tough on the young squad from Kern Valley. The Broncs defense had no answer for the Mission College Prep’s air game as they scored three times in the first half through the air. The Royals opened the scoring with a 30-yard scoring toss to start their high-powered throwing game. The next two TD’s were also through the air as they went from 51 yards and 29 yards to find the end zone.
The overmatched secondary for Kern Valley could not keep up with the onslaught of passes thrown by the Royals quarterback. The first three touchdowns were thrown to three different receivers. The Broncs offense never got it going and was stopped on numerous occasions.
The Royals offense amassed 552 yards in the game. They threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns, while the ground game picked up 225 yards. Conversely, the Broncs offense was limited to just 69 total yards. They passed for 85 yards, but were held to a minus 16 in rushing. Note: No individual stats were made available.
The Kern Valley team will now have a bye week and will try and gather themselves to try and break the three-game losing streak to start the season. Their next action will take place on Sept. 20 when they travel to Bakersfield to play against Mira Monte.
