Lady Broncs varsity volleyball team wins twice

The Kern Valley varsity volleyball made short work of both of their HDL opponents this past week.
They began the week on the road against Desert. It was a three-set victory by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-19. The offense produced 33 kills in the match to secure the win. The service game was another reason the Lady Broncs were able to garb the victory. They had 75 service attempts in the match. They collected a minimal number of aces with four. But with only four service errors, they were able to put the volleyball in play.
Leading the way in kill was Ruby Hawkins with 14. She was followed by Jessie Bunting with seven kills in the match. Ava Elliott and Allie Allen each had four kills, while Elli Jeans recorded two kills for the Lady Broncs. Paisley Wilkins and Leenah Troller rounded out the offense for Kern Valley with one kill apiece.
Wilkins was credited with 26 assists to help set up the offense for the Lady Broncs. Troller had three assists, while Jayda Bushling capped the assists with one. Elliott and Bushling shared the team lead in digs. They each recorded 11 digs in the match. Jeans and Alex Armes were able to handle eight digs apiece, while Wilkins and Allen each had four. Hawkins finished with a pair of digs, while Troller had one.
Next up for the Lady Broncs was Frazier Mountain on Oct. 17. The match was played on Kern Valley’s home court. The Lady Broncs took control at the start and never looked back as they secured the three-set victory. They began the match by taking the first set 25-23. They made it two straight with the 25-19 win in the second set. Kern Valley claimed the match with the 25-23 win in the third and final set.
The difference in this match was the same formula the Lady Broncs have used in the last three matches. Get the serve in and that leads to good things. Very few service errors allowed Kern Valley to work the offense and control the outcome. They committed only two serving errors in 58 service attempts. Along the way they only recorded three aces in the match. Bushling was credited with a pair of aces, while Wilkins finished with one ace in the match.
At the net Hawkins led the team with 12 kills. Bunting followed closely with 11. Elliott collected five kills, while Scarlett Weber finished with four. Allen was credited with three kills, while Jeans had one. Troller totaled six assists. Wilkins finished with five, while Allen recorded a pair of assists. Bushling capped the offense with one assist in the match.
On the defensive side, the Lady Broncs saw Bushling amass 29 digs. Elliott had 16, while Jeans and Armes each had 10 digs. Allen recorded seven, while Hawkins and Mille Bustamante each had three. Bunting got in on the digging as she had one. Hawkins and Bunting shared the team lead in blocks with two apiece. Elliott stopped one attempted kill by having a block.
With these two wins in the books, Kern Valley has two home matches to finish up the regular season. They will need one more win to cement their place in second in the HDL standings. They faced off with Rosamond on Tuesday and will take on Cal City on Thursday. The final match against Cal City will also be the match that Kern Valley will honor the senior players on the team.
