Students awarded during school board meeting

The Kernville Union School district presented several students with Student of the Month awards Tuesday, October 8. These were the students who were actually present during the meeting to receive their awards.

Harper Moffat, Grade 6 was one award recipient that evening. Her teacher Miss Joyner wrote that the student is willing to go above and beyond anticipating the academic and emotional needs of her classmates. She is on time for school every day and ready to succeed with enthusiasm. She is a helpful, kind, hard working, great example of what a leader should be. She participates with class discussions and encourages her peers to do the same. She is an example of what a leader should be. “Harper is an exemplary student so deserving of the honor of being our class student of the month for September,” her teacher said.

Mariah Bailey Grade 8 was another student acknowledged that night. Her teacher Miss Anderson wrote about the student that she is considerate of her teachers and helpful. She makes a noticeable effort to complete her work correctly and enjoys expanding her mind by reading in her free time. She is kind and also shows leadership skills when doing group activities by facilitating and encouraging others. “I’m so happy to nominate Mariah for this award because her effort, helpfulness and leadership should absolutely be recognized and celebrated,” her teacher said.

Emma Harter Grade 4 was awarded as well. Her teacher, Miss Hacker, wrote that she’s a leader inside of the classroom. This student makes completing her work a priority. She is often found helping others. She is also a leader outside the classroom. “She is kind and caring and makes our school a better place,” said Miss Hacker.

Katie Shaffer Grade 4 received an award at the meeting. Her teacher, Miss Alten, wrote she is well deserving of the September PBIS recognition award. She is lively, enthusiastic, charming and proactive, and quick to share her smile. She is on time for school and ready to learn. She works well with others and is quite capable of working independently. She leads by example. “She is kind, generous, polite, and helpful. She participates in class and gives her best effort towards school work,” said Alten.

Cali Ferguson Grade 5, Miss Allen’s student was awarded as well. Allen wrote that Cali is respectful, responsible and kind. She follows directions, collaborates with her team mates and has a great work ethic. She cares about her learning and the learning of her peers. “She makes our classroom a more enjoyable place to learn,” said Allen.

Nicholas Huddleston Grade 5 was acknowledged with this award. Miss Beam wrote that he is always a joy to have in class. He is always leading by example and trying to do his best. And he is always looking for ways to remain pro active. “There is not a more deserving PBIS Student of the Month than Nicholas Huddleston,” said Miss Beam.

Robert Marquez-Blair Grade 8 was awarded. His teacher Ms. McCoy wrote that Robert has been apologetic. He has been very kind and respectful towards other staff on campus. He has been facilitating conflict resolution between his peers. “Academically he’s a very hard worker and knows how to ask for help when he needs it,” said his teacher

Hailey Watts Grade 6 also was awarded. Mr. LaFarga wrote that Hailey is really all-in when it comes to fulfilling expectations. “Each and every day she is on task, willing to be taught and respectful towards her classmates. She’s a great student to have in our class this year,” said LaFarga.
