Kern Valley’s girls’ cross country team set the tone for perfection as they ran past the Lady Bobcats. All seven runners from Kern Valley crossed the line before the first Boron runner found her way to the finish.
In cross country, only five runners create the team score, but the Lady Broncs dominated the race from start to finish. The final score of the meet was 15-0 in favor of Kern Valley. Boron only had four runners so the team race was never in doubt. Kern Valley was led once again by Aspen Hacker. She has dominated the HDL races in the past and continues to do so. She crossed the finish line in a time of 21:40. She was followed by Greta Boettcher in second place with a time of 23:02. Kyla Hacker was the third place finisher in a time of 24:49. Kassandra Guarneros came in fourth. Her time was clocked at 29:15. The fifth runner for the Lady Broncs was Tabitha Cazares. Her time of 29:45 capped off the perfect race finish. The sixth runner to finish for the Lady Broncs was Faith Kirby in a time of 32:52. In seventh place was Delilah McComas in a time of 35:41.
For the boys’ race, Kern Valley could not overcome Boron finishing first, second, and third. The final score saw the Bobcats collect the victory by the score of 21-36. The first Broncs athlete to cross the finish line was Sebastian Stallone who was fourth. His time was 20:46. Ethan Mauer was fifth for Kern Valley in a time of 2:50. The next finisher for the Broncs was Logan Sampson. He was sixth in a time of 22:54. Unfortunately for Kern Valley the Bobcats runners came in seventh and eighth to give them the win. Boron also finished ninth in the race.
Kern Valley saw the next four places occupied by the Broncs. Coming in 10th was Angel Oliveras (27:00). The 11th place spot Luis Lopez (27:44), while the 12th place finisher was Dario Jones (32:23). Matthew Leonez (34:02) rounded out the Kern Valley runners in the HDL race.
The Broncs head coach, Kenny Bushling said, “Again conditions were pretty rough with race time temperature at 101 degrees in Boron.”
The Kern Valley teams will race today against Desert as they continue league meets.
