The local art association is planning a big Halloween event, in October, for which the organizers are currently seeking volunteers.

Kimberly Salazar, Docent for the Kern River Valley Art Association, is organizing the events, which are actually two events in one, which includes a haunted house leading into a masquerade ball.

She said, “Basically we need any volunteers, with experience or no experience, with haunted houses or those type of events. Anyone would be welcome to come and get involved and help us.”

The association needs people to help plan the event before hand, and people to assist with building the decorations, and the haunted house. The KRVAA also needs actors to scare people on the day of the Haunted House and volunteers to help with the food and other things during the Masquerade Ball.

“We have a paper mache artist, so if they want to help out with making decorations or setting up the maze; and if anyone wants to donate or loan us Halloween decorations, flashing lights, or foggers, or just sharing event ideas, it’s all welcome,” she said.

Artist, Patty Kelly plans on teaching a mask-making workshop before the event, September 21 and September 28. The two-part class runs 9:30 am to 1230pm. She will also be teaching a two-part spooky paper mache tree, candy-holder class, Thursday September 19 and September 26 from 6-9pm. Keep your eye out for further mask making classes that may be coming up in October.

The idea for the Masquerade Ball was really based on the premise of bringing people together. “It would just be cool to have an event, for the whole community to come to, like how, back in the day, people would go to the ball.” Salazar said, “I want people to make it like an annual event or something that people look forward to.”

The ball and haunted house will be at the big red building, The Art and Community Center at 6709 Wofford Blvd. Wofford Heights, October 26, from 6pm to 11pm.
