Acknowledge a volunteer, they will appreciate the kindness

Matter of Opinion

Volunteers are the unsung heroes who just want every one to have success.

This is not only the prevalent in the youth sports organization, but also valley wide. Volunteers offer their time and energy in making sure whatever needs to be done, gets done. They have to be secretaries, presidents, bosses and sergeant at arms in order to keep the moments moving.

But when it comes to youth sports organizations, volunteers are the backbone of the program. They spend endless time making sure all the requirements are met so the athletes can enjoy their opportunity in the sports world. Volunteers come in many packages. They are the coaches, the team moms, the governing board members, and the list goes on. They are usually the parents that take and make time to allow their charges to learn the game, have fun and hopefully find success. There are a myriad of what success means to the athletes. Sometimes just getting the chance to play is measured in success. And most times it’s the volunteers that have afforded this opportunity.

Volunteers shape the way athletes perceive the sport they are playing. They hope they can guide these young athletes to be passionate about the sport and make it an experience they can live out for how many years they play the particular sport. Some volunteers are behind the scenes, and make sure all the athletes get to the games, make sure practice is a learning experience, and the rules of the organization are being followed.

All the while, usually having to be a parent also, and make sure their own children are setting the example of being a good teammate. If there were no volunteers, there would be no youth sports organizations. They are the glue that binds an organization together, often times with no one knowing just what it takes to accomplish these feats. They literally could be any place else, but they made a choice to be a volunteer. They don’t do it for the accolades, or prestige, they do it because they care about the organization. So, the next time you get a chance, thank a volunteer. They are the ones doing most of the work. That’s a Matter of Opinion!
