With the end of their regular season at hand, the Kern Valley High School teams are preparing to make their run at CIF.
The Kern Valley track teams, both the girls and boy’s squads, after preparing for this the whole year are ready to make a showing at the CIF Division 5 Championships being held at Caruthers High School on Friday. These teams are coming off the HDL Finals and will hopefully begin to make their path to the State Meet. Four athletes on the Lady Broncs squad won HDL Championships. Six Broncs earned individual league champions, while one other athlete was part of a winning relay team.
The collection of athletes from Kern Valley that will compete at the CIF championships has proven all year they can compete with anybody. All year this group of athletes have pushed themselves and each other to be better than they were the meet before. The Lady Broncs track team had four athletes earn HDL league champion status in the HDL Finals held this past week (see related story). A total of seven from Kern Valley’s boys track team earned hardware at the HDL Finals (see related story).
With one week left in their season, both the Lady Broncs softball team and the Broncs baseball squad are in position to earn high seeds in the upcoming CIF playoffs.
The Lady Broncs are hoping to win a league title and being favored highly when the seeding for the CIF tournament comes out. Currently the Lady Broncs softball team are sitting at 11-1 in league play. They played Rosamond on Tuesday and then possibly a league showdown game versus Cal City on Friday. If the two teams remain tied heading into Friday’s contest the winner will win the HDL Title. Then it will be on to the CIF Playoffs and a chance to collect a CIF Championship.
The Broncs are currently tied for second place in the HDL with Cal City at 9-3. The Ravens of Cal City currently hold the tie-breaker as they beat the Broncs earlier in the season. If things pan out and the two teams are tied after games played on Tuesday, another Cal City showdown will take place on May 9, to decide second place in the HDL. The game will be played on the Ravens home field. After that, Kern Valley will hope to begin a successful run through the CIF playoffs.
