The Kern County Board of Supervisors met as scheduled for the Tuesday April 9, 2024, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Zack Scrivner (District 2), Chairman Jeff Flores (District 3), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights:
Item No. 1 AM session:The Board proclaimed April 21 – 27, 2024 as Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Kern County.
Item No. 2 AM session:The Board proclaimed Giving Day in Kern County to encourage local giving throughout the annual fundraiser “Give Big Kern.”
Item No. 3 AM session:The Board proclaimed May 2024 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Kern County.
Item No. 7 AM session:The Board approved an agreement with the San Diego Humane Society for training and services to promote spay/neuter services at the Kern County Animal Shelter.
Item No. 13 AM session:The Board approved an agreement with College Community Services to provide children, adolescent, and adult outpatient mental health services for clients living in Lake Isabella, Ridgecrest, Mojave, and Tehachapi, in addition to outreach services in Mojave.
Item No. 19 AM session:The Board approved the Kern County Fire Department accepting a grant award from the Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program (USDA) for prescribed fire education and training to increase fire safety in our community.
Item No. 20 AM session:The Board approved an agreement with Garden Pathways for the provision of Medi-Cal Health Enrollment Navigator Project services through June of 2025.
Item No. 11 PM session:The Board approved an agreement with the City of Shafter to provide Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the City of Shafter Library and Learning Center Chess Garden to enhance quality of life services for Shafter residents.
Items No. 16 – 21 PM session:The Board held a series of protest hearings for cost incurred for various nuisance abatement work throughout unincorporated Kern County.This effort supports the enhancement of quality-of-life for Kern County residents.
Item No. 39 PM session:The Board voted to contribute $1,000 to the Arvin Chamber of Commerce, $1,000 to the CSUB Foundation, and $1,000 to the Camp Hamilton Veterans Memorial Park, Inc.
Item No. 40 PM session:The Board voted to contribute $5,000 to the Bakersfield Sikh Women’s Association.
Items. No 42 – 44 PM session:The Board approved plans, specifications, and notice to contractors for the Camp Okihi Water Line Kern River Crossing Project, and identified low, responsive, and responsible bids and approved contracts with Ken W. Smith Construction for the Boron Skatepark and Rosamond Park Improvements.Watch the entire presentation here.
