Yolanda Josephine Winslow

Yolanda Josephine Winslow went peacefully to her Heavenly home in the arms of Jesus after having communion with her daughters, Sharon and Jeannie; her son, Gary; and son-in-law, Michael. Jo, to her friends and Josie to her family, passed on Oct. 16, 2020, at her son’s home in Bakersfield after a heroic six-month fight with small-cell carcinoma.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1935, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, to Maurice and Eugenia Revetti, immigrants from Italy.

Jo was baptized at the age of 8 in Brockton, New York, where she spent her younger years.

She spent her teenage years in Santa Barbara, California, where she graduated from Santa Barbara High School and worked her first job at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

In 1958, she moved to Bakersfield where she lived for more than 20 years, working at Navy Oil and owning Harris Pools. In 1979, she moved to Squirrel Valley.

Jo also worked at Tammy’s Landing and Kern Valley Hospital in her later years before retiring.

Jo was an avid quilter and belonged to the Dam Quilters in the Kern River Valley. She loved to square dance, play bingo and bunco, and play hand-and-foot with her son and granddaughters. Jo also loved to travel. She was remodeling her dream home in Pismo Beach.

She attended Weldon United Methodist Church and loved her little white church on the side of the road.

Jo dearly loved her family and friends. She was vivacious, independent, strong as she was stubborn, full of life and fun, and had traveling feet. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Michael) Scott; son, Gary Kelly; and daughter, Jeannie (James) Rich; grandchildren, Scott and Jennifer Obert, Joanne and Frank Amestoy, Steven and Erin Obert, Jamie McCain, Brooke Kelly, Aubriana Kelly and Lauren Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; seven nieces and two nephews; along with cousins in Italy; numerous friends from all over the U.S.; and her constant companions, Gidget and Koko.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Delio and Louis; sisters, Della and Erma; her husbands; and granddaughter, Jessica Rich.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in memory of Yolanda “Jo” Winslow to the American Cancer Society of Kern County; 1831 Truxton Ave., Suite 150; Bakersfield, CA 93301.

A “Celebration of Jo’s Life” will be held on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Weldon United Methodist Church, Highway 178 in Weldon. There will be an additional “Celebration of Jo’s Life” at 3 p.m. at 5643 Brooks Court in Bakersfield, 93308.
