Both teams running for Whiskey Flat mayor 2025 held fundraisers for their charitable causes, Saturday January 11.
The Chuckwagon Ochoa’s mayor candidate team is raising money for a new “cowboy chuck wagon” (van) to deliver meals for the Salvation Army to the community “of cowboys.”
They held a fundraiser at the Kern River Valley Art Association’s gallery reception, in the evening, following the Angels Roost Gang’s BBQ at 178 Bar & Grill, that afternoon, which included a mechanical bull ride competition.
The Mayoral team Angels Roost Gang is raising money to upgrade Kernville’s Rodeo Grounds. The band was playing sets and held an Urban Cowboy Bullride Competition.
Scotty’s Castles brought up the mechanical bull especially for the Urban Cowboy Bull Ride Competition. Mayoral candidate Peacemaker Pete (Pete Tebow) was in good enough spirits to join in on the mechanical bull ride competition.
He told the Kern Valley Sun, “We’re raising funds for the Rodeo Grounds. We want to upgrade the Rodeo Grounds.” Peacemaker Pete said that Scotty’s Castles came out with only last minute notice. “We called him last minute, asked him to come out. He did it just for us, for the community. And he did it for free. Scotty’s awesome. Call him if you need something, if you’re having a party.”
Mayor candidate Kern River Kid (Bronson Slaughter) said regarding the funds raised, “It’s all going towards the Revive the Rodeo. We believe that Kernville can be more profitable. We’d like to bring back the rodeos. When the rodeos are alive and well the whole town will profit from it.”

Later the same night, the public bought opportunities for one of two Nelda’s Diner gift certificates or a Bloody Mary mix gift basket. Kelley McCoy spoke on behalf of the mayor candidate team Chuckwagon Ochoa’s (Yolanda and Destiny Ochoa.) She told the Kern Valley Sun, “Yeehaw Yolanda and Desperado Destinee are running for Whiskey Flat Mayor, raising money for the Salvation Army, so we could feed the people of the Kern River Valley.” McCoy said the team’s goal wasn’t about winning the mayor campaign, as much as it was about feeding the people of the Kern River Valley, who are in need. The team is raising money to purchase a van for food deliveries.
Yeehaw Yolanda said, “I want to say thank you to all of you for being here. I really appreciate your support and this is for a good cause. I’m running for Whiskey Flat mayor and this is for our local Salvation Army. We are feeding at least 1,200 people a month. So I’m asking for your support. We have several events coming up.”
