Manager Orion Sanders handed a book titled Old Kernville Historic Cemetery Tour, hot off the press, to the Kern River Valley Cemetery District’s board, Tuesday November 12.
The books were copies from the reprint, of a publication, the Kern River Valley Historical Society (KRVHS) previously published.
Sanders explained that the KRVHS originally published the booklet, which is about a tour of the Old Cemetery, which features fourteen people recognized
as pioneers of the Kern Valley. “What I did was I took an 8.5 x 11 print, I found it on a CD, I took all the information and put it into a booklet,” Sanders told the board.
“We’re working in conjunction with the historical society. That’s why it has their logo on it. It’s a partnership that we’re going to do for Whiskey Flat Days providing tours of the Old Cemetery.”
Sanders said he also plans for the district to do another book about Veterans. “We’re also doing another book called The Veterans of the Historic Cemetery. There’s 52 veterans over there. We’re going to be giving the (Kern Valley Museum) curator all the detailed information so she can do research on the veterans buried over there,” he said.
Sanders also said that the KRVHS would also have a booth for people to sign up, at the Museum Annex, during Whiskey Flat Days, for a tour of the Old Cemetery.
Sanders planned for the district to work on getting the Historic Cemetery nicely cleaned up before Whiskey Flat Days.
