The annual 67-year-old Whiskey Flat Days theme was Whitewater & Whiskey.
As is tradition the event was held on President’s Day weekend.
Sunday afternoon the winning team of the Whiskey Flat Mayor candidate race was announced. Of the three teams, team 1.) River Rat Ryan and Deputy Doug, team 2.) Galloping Gomez and team 3.) Powder Packin’ Powers and Mad Miner Zuber, the winning team was River Rat Ryan and Deputy Dillinger Doug who raised over $40,000 for their cause COEP, an organization through Kern County Probation, and Camp Erwin Owen, which instills positive character traits in the youth through community service projects.
Despite previous storm damages Whiskey Flat Days encampment reenactments occurred most of the day, every day from Friday through Monday, with covered wagons, old west mining demonstrations, gunfights and a cowboy style church service.
The Iron Horse Rodeo, Friday, was a motorcycle event, which Teri Ritchison from the Kern Valley Motorcycle Club organized. And the Wild West Daze Rodeo competitions were Saturday and Sunday. The rodeo included a climbing wall, during which time the person making it to the top of the climb, first won $100.
Saturday the Whiskey Flat Days planners, the Kernville Chamber of Commerce held a huge Whiskey Flat Days parade.
Events Sunday included the annual costume contest with categories for children, women and men. And the men participated in a whiskerino (beard) contest.
The weekend of events also included a street dance and live music including the band
Angels Roost.
