Please join me in congratulating Marcella Lopez to her new position as the River Manager on the Kern River District. Lopez will be working with river outfitters, users and partners as we continue to manage the Kern River as a world class recreation destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Lopez grew up in East LA with her parents, her younger sister and Wally her beloved YorkiePoo dog.

She started working on the Sequoia National Forest in June 2017 as a Mobilize Green intern working in recreation site operations and supporting volunteer activities. In June 2018 she graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a BS Degree in Agriculture & Animal Science. In July 2019, Lopez returned to the Kern River District as a temporary Recreation Technician, continuing to support customer service, recreation operations and river management activities.

Lopez has a strong customer service background and is a good fit for the Kern River’s high recreation areas speaking both English and Spanish fluently. During her free time Lopez enjoys swimming, hiking, camping, working with animals and spending time with her family. Prior to the FS Lopez was (and still is) a huge car enthusiast! She enjoys working on cars and taking her rare 2008 Honda Mugen SI to car shows.

Lopez is known for her infectious smile and a genuinely positive ‘can do’ attitude. Lopez says she is really excited to continue her work in Recreation here on the Kern River District and especially looks forward to the opportunity to focus on river management. Lopez start date is April 26, 2020. Welcome Marcella, we are glad to have you join our team!
