The VFW held a Christmas event for children December 14, with Santa Visits, gifts for the children, homemade Christmas cookies, and hot chocolate for the kids.

Larry Bly told the Kern Valley Sun, “We have a list, with the ages of the children, so Santa was able to reach in” he said, and give those kids age appropriate gifts.

Santa Claus, also known as Richard Mohr said, “I came from the Elks. They just had their Christmas over there.” Mohr explained that he was singing with the Kern River Chorus at the recent Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce, Tree Lighting Ceremony, dressed in a Santa suit, after he was at the Elks Lodge. That’s how he was discovered to be the most authentic Santa, with a real natural set of whiskers, to go with the get-up.

He never intended to steal the other Santa’s popularity at the tree lighting event. It was a matter of timing. No one knew he’d be dressed that way when he was singing with the
Kern River Chorus.
