The results of the 5th Annual KRV Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament confirm that 2017 is a year to remember for bringing smiles to Kern River Valley sportsmen, whether it be for water sports or hitting the greens.
After a year with the Valley Cup in the possession of an enthusiastic foursome from Bakersfield, it is once again safely housed back home in the Kern River Valley. The 1st place KRV team members Fred Roach, Tom Borchard, Mark Gordon, and Tom Teofilo now must make the difficult decision on whose mantle the distinguished trophy will be placed.
The weather was beautiful on Saturday, October 21 at the Kern Valley Golf Course, and there was no smoke in the air to be used as an excuse for a less than perfect shot. Since scramble golf was played, and Mulligans and a new Magic Putt were available for purchase, the four-person teams saw some scores only pro golfers would normally attain. That thrill may encourage some of the golfers to come back and play another few rounds on their own to see if they can match those scores.
It was an enjoyable day both on the course and off, with lunch and raffle prizes to round out the event. Among the many great raffle gifts of golf clubs and sports clothing, one donated item stood out. It was a glass-domed Christmas decoration which is likely to become a recurring white elephant gift during a future KRV Chamber event.
Event Chairman George Stahl thanked the sponsors and volunteers for their support of the KRV Chamber. In thanking the golfers for their participation, he encouraged them to return to play at the golf course during the year.
That may be good advice. The Bakersfield foursome may have taken 3rd place this year, but they said they will be back next year to reclaim the top prize. They’ve vowed to bring others from Bakersfield with them. It sounds like the KRV teams better stay sharp and keep practicing.
