Kern Valley Sun

The first Kern Valley Sun came off the press 60 years ago and has not missed an issue since. To celebrate, the Kern Valley Sun hosted a luncheon, on November 20, for members of the community who have been long-time contributors, subscribers, and friends to the Sun. Staff at the Sun were determined enough to make this rainy day a success.

Fred Clark, President of the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce, grilled hot dogs and handed out potato salad with chips for attendees of the event. Banners for the attendees and staff of the Sun were available to sign. A steady flow of traffic throughout the building allowed for the community to admire past stories placed on walls.

In attendance was First District Supervisor Mick Gleason, his Kern River Valley representative Debbie Freeland, and District Director Phillip Peters who presented publisher and owner of the Kern Valley Sun, Marsha Smith, a certificate of recognition for the achievements and exemplary public service given to the community of the Kern River Valley and the County of Kern.

The Kern Valley Sun also celebrated its birthday by publishing a special insert written and compiled by Kathe Malouf and the staff of the Sun. Please, feel free to swing by the office and pick up your copy of this very special edition to our archives.
