Proudly serving the Kern River Valley in California

Winter storms roll into the Kern River Valley; send us your photos and videos

Posted

A series of winter storms is moving into Kern County this week, bringing rain to the valley and snow to the surrounding mountains — and the Kern Valley Sun wants to see what it looks like in your neighborhood.

The storm system began pushing into the region Monday as part of a larger weather pattern expected to deliver multiple rounds of precipitation across California.

For the Kern River Valley, that typically means changing conditions fast: wet roads in town, fresh snow in the high country, and plenty of dramatic skies in between.

Show us what you’re seeing

When storms roll through the valley, the scenery changes quickly — snow on Greenhorn, fog over the lake, rushing creeks, and rainbows that pop up just as fast as the clouds move out.

The Kern Valley Sun is asking readers to send in photos and short videos of what you’re seeing around Lake Isabella, Kernville, Weldon, Wofford Heights, Bodfish, Onyx, and the Upper Kern.

Your submissions may be featured on the Kern Valley Sun social media. Send photos or videos to spencer@kvsun.com

If you submit content, include:

  • Your name

  • Where the photo or video was taken

  • A short description of what’s happening

What to expect this week

Winter storms often arrive in waves, and this system is expected to be the first in a series moving across the region.

Residents should prepare for:

  • Rain in the valley and foothills

  • Snow in higher elevations

  • Gusty winds at times

  • Rapidly changing road and travel conditions

Drivers heading over mountain passes or traveling along Highway 178 and Highway 155 should plan ahead and watch for wet roads, falling rock, and winter driving conditions in higher elevations.

Community weather coverage

One thing the Kern River Valley does well is document its own weather. Every storm brings a flood of photos from around the valley — snow-covered decks, rising creeks, storm clouds rolling over the lake, and kids enjoying rare snow days.

Now it’s your turn again.

Send us your weather photos and videos and help us show the rest of Kern County what winter looks like in the Kern River Valley. Send photos or videos to spencer@kvsun.com or share with Kern Valley Sun on Facebook, Instagram , or Tik Tok @kvsun7
