A vegetation fire reported Wednesday morning in the Kern River Canyon prompted a major emergency response near Highway 178 and Kern River Canyon Road, according to PulsePoint.
The incident was received at 9:18 a.m. Wednesday and remained active as of publication. Multiple Kern County Fire Department resources were dispatched or en route, including engines, hand crews, dozers, water tenders and command staff.
The PulsePoint incident listing identified the location as Highway 178 at Kern River Canyon Road in Kern County.
The Willow Fire is .25 acres as of now. Reports state the fire is burning at a slow to moderate of speed.
By 10 a.m., eastbound Highway 178 lanes were blocked to assist firefighting operations, with one-way traffic control in place, according to Caltrans. Earlier incident logs showed CHP was requested to close Highway 178 at Willow Springs Creek near mile marker 25.8, where Sequoia National Forest was identified as taking command of the fire response.
No containment estimate and evacuation warnings are immediately available as crews responded.
