Vegetation Fire Reported Near Lake Isabella, Crews Responding

Posted

LAKE ISABELLA — Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire near Lake Isabella on Thursday evening after the incident was reported shortly before 8 p.m.

According to initial dispatch information, the fire was reported near 12201 Highway 178 and was estimated at approximately one-tenth of an acre. Early reports indicated the fire was backing against the wind, a fire behavior that typically results in slower rates of spread than wind-driven fires.

Kern County Fire Department resources were dispatched to the scene, with multiple engines, patrol units, water tenders, and command personnel assigned to the incident. Additional resources were en route as crews worked to assess conditions and determine the fire's exact size.

At the time of the initial response, acreage was considered developing as firefighters continued their size-up of the incident.

No information was immediately available regarding the cause of the fire, whether any structures were threatened, or if injuries had been reported.

The fire remained an active incident as crews continued suppression efforts Thursday evening. Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
