State Route 178 One-Way Traffic Control Planned Friday in Kern Canyon

Posted

Drivers traveling through the Kern Canyon should plan for short delays Friday, Jan. 16, when Caltrans crews set up one-way traffic control on a two-mile stretch of State Route 178.

Caltrans District 6 said the work is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. Officials said motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes during the closure window.

The maintenance work includes shoulder repair, graffiti removal, delineation repair and replacement, pothole repairs and blasting operations, according to the agency.

Traffic will be escorted through the work zone using flagging personnel and a pilot vehicle. Caltrans urged drivers to follow directions from flaggers, stay behind the pilot vehicle and watch for road maintenance vehicles.

Caltrans thanked residents and commuters for their patience and reminded drivers to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
