Sandbag Stations Open Across the Kern River Valley Ahead of Incoming Storm

Posted

KERN RIVER VALLEY — With heavy rain in the forecast, Kern County Public Works has stocked sand at multiple locations across the valley so residents can prepare for possible flooding.
The county provides the sand for free, but residents will need to bring their own shovels and sandbags. Empty bags are available at local hardware stores. Public Works says the goal is to get sand into neighborhoods before the storm arrives, especially in areas that have dealt with drainage problems in the past.
Tips on the county’s Road Maintenance, Sand Locations, and Storm Preparation webpages, which outline everything from storm-drain cleaning to recommended safe-travel routes during floods.

Three stations are available in the Kern River Valley:

County officials encourage residents in low-lying areas, along creeks, or below recent burn scars to pick up sandbags early rather than waiting until rain begins.

Updates on road conditions and emergency information will be posted by Kern County Public Works and Kern County Fire as the storm approaches.
