On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at approximately 1215 hours, a CHP Bakersfield Area unit traveling on
State Route 178, east of Lake Isabella Boulevard came across a two-vehicle traffic crash.
A Preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Subaru was traveling eastbound on State Route 178, east
of Lake Isabella Boulevard, at an undetermined speed. A 2021 International was traveling
westbound on State Route 178, east of Lake Isabella Boulevard, at approximately 45 miles per hour.
The driver of the Subaru was unable to safely negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the
Subaru traveled off the roadway and struck multiple roadway signs. The Subaru continued traveling
in a northeasterly direction across both lanes and into the path of the International. The female driver
of the Subaru was transported to Kern Valley Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
The male driver of the International had complaint of pain to his back.
State Route 178 was closed for approximately three hours for this investigation.
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
