The Kern Valley Sun increased its subscription and newsstand prices effective May 1 after rising printing and postage costs, according to Circulation Manager Steve Rinehart.
The new price for the weekly Kern Valley Sun newspaper has gone from $1.50 to $2.00.
Rinehart said the decision followed about a year and a half of steady cost increases tied to producing and distributing the paper.
“We tried to keep the costs the same, but the price of printing the paper has reached a point where the increases are necessary,” Rinehart told the Kern Valley Sun.
Despite the increase, subscriptions will continue to offer a lower cost per issue compared to purchasing individual copies at a newsstand, Rinehart noted.
At this time, no changes have been announced for the Sun’s e-edition pricing.
The new rates are now in effect as the newspaper continues to provide regular publication and local coverage in the Kern River Valley.
