On June 5, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Kern Valley Substation, responded to a check the welfare call regarding Colin Kegley near Big Blue Road and Piute Drive. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with Kegley via phone but he would not disclose his location. Deputies ultimately located Kegley on the roof of a business, armed with a rifle. An officer involved shooting occurred.
Kegley was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. Colin Kegley, age 28, was arrested and booked into IRC for assault with a firearm on a peace officer, exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a peace officer, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony, resisting obstructing arrest, and negligent discharge of a firearm.
Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
No further information will be released at this time. A video presentation to include body worn camera footage and other relevant information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
