The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver who died after a vehicle entered Lake Isabella on May 23 as 21-year-old Ashot Geboyan of Van Nuys.
According to the coroner’s report, Geboyan was operating a vehicle that veered off the roadway and into Lake Isabella near Sierra Way at approximately 6:21 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A postmortem examination determined the cause of death was drowning, with blunt force injuries listed as a contributing condition. The manner of death was ruled accidental.
The identification follows a CHP pursuit that ended when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the lake. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The identification follows a high-profile pursuit that began in Lake Isabella on the evening of May 23. According to CHP, officers attempted a traffic stop near Scodie Avenue and Dunwood Street at approximately 6:16 p.m. The driver failed to yield, leading officers on a pursuit through the Lake Isabella area.
About five minutes later, the vehicle left the roadway near Stine Cove, became airborne, and entered Lake Isabella.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway. The CHP investigation remains ongoing.
