Proudly serving the Kern River Valley in California

Congressman Fong Joins Coalition in Support of Measure A

Posted

Congressman Vince Fong announced his strong support for Measure A, joining a growing number of local leaders and organizations who understand that Kern County voters should decide who represents our communities.

Currently, the Governor of California has the power to appoint replacements to vacant seats on the Kern County Board of Supervisors, diminishing the democratic right of voters in deciding who represents their interests. Measure A puts control back in Kern County’s hands and doesn’t create any costs for taxpayers.

“Kern County voters know our communities, our economy, and our values better than any Governor's appointee ever could,” said Congressman Vince Fong. “Measure A keeps that decision right where it belongs — at home. Vote ‘Yes’ on Measure A.”

All five members of the Kern County Board of Supervisors, Republicans and Democrats alike, unanimously voted to place Measure A on the ballot. As elected officials, they understand the importance of voter-approved representation.

With a ‘Yes’ vote on Measure A, Kern would join 13 major California counties, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Fresno, and Sacramento, that have local control in deciding who represents their communities.

“The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved putting Measure A on the ballot,” said Supervisor David Couch. “We cannot allow outside interests to hand-pick our local leaders. Measure A will ensure that Kern County voters decide who represents them. I thank Congressman Fong for joining in support of this effort to keep the shadow of Sacramento out of our communities and local businesses.”
