WELDON, Calif. — July 15, 2025 — A rapidly spreading wildfire, named the Fay Fire, erupted north of Weldon on Monday afternoon, prompting emergency officials to issue evacuation warnings for nearby residents.
The fire was first reported around 3:16 p.m. in the rugged hills just north of the rural community and quickly grew to an estimated 80 to 220 acres by evening. As of the latest updates, the fire is not contained.
Officials from the Kern County Fire Department and Cal Fire responded promptly, deploying ground crews and aerial support. However, steep terrain and dry brush are complicating containment efforts. Fire crews are focusing on establishing fire lines and protecting structures near the perimeter of the blaze.
An evacuation warning has been issued for Zone KRN-768, urging residents to prepare for the possibility of mandatory evacuation. Those living in the area are advised to pack essential belongings and stay updated through emergency alerts via Genasys Protect, ReadyKern, or local news channels.
Weather forecasts predict continued high temperatures and low humidity, which could cause the Fay Fire to expand in the coming hours or days if not contained promptly.
Residents are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to operate safely and efficiently. As of late Monday, no injuries or structural damage had been reported; however, officials caution that the situation remains fluid.
This is a breaking story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
