Steven Lee Sauers passed away in a traffic accident in Bakersfield, Calif., on April 16, 2017, at 41 years of age.
Steven was born on May 23, 1975, in Artesia, Calif. He spent over 23 years in the Kern River Valley and graduated from Kern Valley High School in 1993. He worked at Mt. Mesa Market and James Station, as well as Coors Distributors and Advanced Beverage in Bakersfield. He was also a licensed and professional installer for Hunter Douglas in Lake Havasu, Ariz. Steven then went on to the oil field profession at 30 years of age and held numerous professional licenses. He worked for Fred Stevens, KVS, North Dakota Oil Fields and was last employed by Clean Harbors. He was part of Set Free Church in Yucaipa, Calif., and he worked for Jesus Christ in his final year doing ministry work and feeding the poor.
Steven was always worried about the homeless and the hungry. Since he was very young, he made it a ritual to go to the ATM every Saturday and cash out $100 in one dollar bills and ride all over Bakersfield and Oildale feeding the poor. He would go into laundromats and find single mothers struggling to pay to wash their children’s clothing, and he would pay for their laundry and take their kids to the candy and soda machines to buy them a treat. We just loved looking at his face after he would do that; he felt like he was on top of the world. The last year of Steven’s life he was feeding the poor full-time with Set Free Church in Yucaipa, Lake Elsinore, Banning and Los Angeles.
In the eighth grade, Steven taught children how to ride their bikes after he joined the BMX club in Bakersfield. He used to make riding tracks for all the young kids all over the Kern River Valley, mostly in Weldon, and teach them tricks of the trade (mostly how to catch air off the jump.) He then became a professional BMX rider and won several races and trophies. Steven’s favorite hobby was riding motorcycles since he was five years old when his dad bought his first bike when we lived in Odessa, TX. His BFF Brady Presswood (Squirrel Valley) and he would ride all over the valley and were always getting themselves in some kind of mess.
Steven is survived by his mother, Michelle Lee McKellar of Paso Robles, Calif.; his father, John Robert Sauers of Utah; Darrell E. Priebe of Mt. Mesa, Calif.; Johnathan Lee McKellar of Paso Robles, Calif.; his brother, Sheldon Wayne Priebe of Weldon; his sister, Heather Marie Priebe of North Augusta, SC; his nana, Julie M. Woolard of Bakersfield; his sister, Khristena Dotts of Odessa; and Bianey Sauers. He is also survived by his children, Cody Lee Factor, Sophia Alexa Sauers, and GianMarco Sauers of Coalinga, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his papa, Ronald Wayne Woolard of Bakersfield; his aunts and uncles Mark and Laura Woolard of Brea, Calif.; David and Gaylynn Glover of Bakersfield; Karen McKellar of Yucaipa; Linda Priebe Coppedge of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, his BFF, Brady Presswood, and his Brothers in Christ with Set Free Church.
