Stephen John Thomey, 77, passed away of a long-term illness on June 10, 2020, at his home in Mountain Mesa, California. He was born on June 16, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He started working at the age of 13 in gas stations, then moved to pipeline construction. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou, in 1962, and they proceeded to have five children by 1970.
Steve worked for many years with Zapata Construction, then moved his family to Lake Isabella in September 1977, but continued to commute to work in Anaheim for a few years. He worked several local jobs in the Valley, starting with Dale Creighton in Weldon and ending with home-building in the Valley.
Due to an injury, he went back to school, becoming a medical assistant and working at the local hospital. He ended his career returning to construction and retired in 2007.
He was a hard worker, great supporter, friend to many and always had a ready smile to greet everyone. His work ethic lives on in his children and grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou.
He is survived by his daughters, Heidi Daryabary, Erin Embree and Jill Campbell; his sons, Randy Thomey and David Thomey and their spouses; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his brother Jerry Thomey.
There will be no memorial service; his family will remember him privately at a later date.
