One of our own from Kern Valley is getting the opportunity to compete in the junior Olympics. Jayda Bushling is making waves in the track and field world by qualifying for the junior Olympics and getting the chance to compete against some of the best young athletes in the world.

In order to be prepared for this event the training had to be harder than ever. Jayda said that the hardest part of training is not comparing yourself to others and to just focus on your own goals you have set. Jayda’s favorite part about track is seeing her own personal growths in her running times and jump lengths.

When asked about competing in the junior Olympics Jayda said that it is rewarding from all the hard work that she’s had to put in. With competing in this event there comes great pressure and Jayda said that she feels the pressure, but it doesn’t affect her since she knows what she is capable of.

Jayda said that it feels amazing after all the work she has put in is finally paying off in a big way. I asked her if she was nervous to compete and she said she is not but is excited to be pushed by the other competitors that are faster than her in hopes to achieving a new PR.

When asked about her plans after the junior Olympics Jayda said she will be preparing for the upcoming volleyball season at Kern Valley High School. Jayda said that her training will be different after the junior Olympics.

She said that it will be harder since she knows there will be a new level to track and field. When asked about hoping to receive national recognition and collegiate recognition she said she only hopes to receive collegiate recognition and not a lot nationally. Jayda hopes to grow as an individual and athlete from this event.
