Shafter Generals outgun varsity Broncs

It was quite the “experience” for the varsity football Broncs when they filled a hole in their schedule.

When Desert High School dropped 11-man football from their program it left Kern Valley one game short on the schedule. They were able to find a game with the Division 5 Shafter Generals. The Broncs were placed in Division 6 this season, so they were stepping up a bit to fit their schedule.

Kern Valley saw the Generals outmaneuver them all game long. In the first quarter the two teams exchanged punts and turned the ball over on downs. Taking their next possession, Shafter would explode for eight straight touchdowns. They rolled through the Broncs defense for five consecutive scoring plays all the way to the half.

It was decided to go to a running clock in the second half, but even that could not stop the Generals (6-2) express. They finished off the game with three more touchdowns to send Kern Valley (2-5) to the 53-0 loss in a non-league contest.

For the game, the Broncs mustered only 154 yards of total offense. They rushed for 120 and threw for 34 yards.

In the passing department, both Jacob Lightner and Anthony Barton completed one pass a piece.

Only four Broncs had touches in the ground game.
Passing: Lightner 1-2-14, Barton 1-3-20
Receiving: Conrad Miller 1-20, Barton 1-14
Rushing: Lightner 12-58, Miller 8-30, Aaron Grimsby 7-18, Barton 4-14
Tackles: Miller 11, Darrell Riley 6, Barton 4, Devon Vittoria 3, Adam Virto 3, Nick Timms 3, Fortino Mendez 3, Brett Grimsby 2, Tanner Tito 2, A. Grimsby 2, Kenneth Porter 1

The Broncs return to High Desert League action this Friday when Rosamond comes to town. This game will also be Homecoming for the Broncs.
