Despite a cold and rainy afternoon, the Second Saturday reception for the month of April was once again well attended. This month’s theme show, Heaven on Earth, showcases the response from local artists to the theme.  Submission include depictions of local scenery, as well as interpretations in metal, wood and fabric, and renderings of the sky, mountains and rivers.  First prize was awarded to John Clark for his entry Pirouette. Second prize went to Merry Hinkey for her paintings Living the Dream. Third prize was given to Dave Susko for Ethereal Morning, a photographic study in subtle blue tones of Lake Isabella.  An Honorable Mention was awarded to Patricia Seamount for her watercolor paining, Up in the Sierra.  Third place winner Dave Susko is also the current Artist of the Month, where he shares landscape photos with the community.  The colorful images evoke a sense of wonder and tranquility in nature brought out by Dave’s keen eye.

This month also features once again work’s by Wallace Middle School students.  Under the guidance of  art instructor Zach Sanders, the students responded to their chosen theme of Beauty of Nature.  Students explored many of nature’s features, including flowers, mountains and the stars.

KRVAA’s Artist of the Month spot at the Kern Valley Museum features Amanda Raymond and her exquisite pastel and colored pencils animal drawings. 

Upcoming in May is the art contest sponsored by the Kern Fire Safe Council using grant funds awarded by CalFire through the California Climate Investments initiative.  Artists are encouraged to submit works suitable for the theme Building a Fire Resilient Future. Awards will be presented to three (3) artists selected by a review committee.  First place will receive $500, second place will receive $400, and third place will receive $300.An awards celebration and reception will be held May 5, 2024, 3pm, at The Station in Wofford Heights, 6701 Wofford Boulevard.  Works must be submitted Friday, May 3rd from 9am-5pm, and Saturday, May 4th from 9am-12noon, at The Station, The Station in Wofford Heights, 6701 Wofford Boulevard.
