Longtime resident Ray Rouse, age 87, passed away on November 19, 2018, at the Burlington Assisted Living Home in Wofford Heights, Calif.
Ray was born February 13, 1931, in the small town of Ribolt, Ky. He spent his early years growing up there in the hills of north central Kentucky and working on his father’s sharecropper farm.
At 18, Ray joined the U.S. Navy and when his hitch was up, he married his dream girl Barbara Lee Clark of Irvin, Ky.
The Rouses went on to have four children and moved to the rural area of Panama, Calif., near Bakersfield in the mid-1950s. Ray worked in the dairy farm industry until the early 1970s when the family settled in Taft, Calif. Ray started his own air conditioning and appliance business on Center Street called Westside Service Center. Ray was also the manager of Taft’s local country music group the Rouse Brothers Band. He retired to Lake Isabella, Calif., in 2007.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents Samuel Washington Rouse and Addie Francis Rouse, his wife of 65 years Barbara Lee Rouse, two daughters Denise LaVerne Vaughn and Debra Sue Dozier, and son Steven Robert Rouse. He is also proceeded in death by a brother and eight sisters.
Ray is survived by his son Samuel Ray Rouse, Jr. of Lake Isabella, Calif. Ray leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ray was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Lake Isabella at the time of his passing.
Ray Rouse cut a large swath through life and many were proud to call this Kentucky boy their friend.
A graveside service will be held for Grandpa Ray at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, at the Kern River Valley Cemetery located at 8441 Burlando Rd, Wofford Heights, Calif., 93285. All are welcomed to attend.
The Lake Isabella Valley Mortuary, 5108 Lake Isabella Blvd., Lake Isabella, Calif., 93240, is overseeing arraignments.
