At Circle Park, in Kernville, one could not mistake the annual Rubber Ducky fundraiser for another event, Saturday August 24. With Kern Valley Exchange Club members in a flurry to man continued ticket sales and taking tickets, the place was abuzz.

Games during the event included a Duck Toss game, a Slip n Slide Duck race, Duck fishing and a Dunk Tank target game, among others.

Reyanna Santos, club member who was M.C, announced that day. She said, “This is a major fund raiser for scholarships for our high school students. Everything here is also to bring awareness for prevention of child abuse as well as helping these kids,” she said

Athletes from the Kern Valley High School football team were bold enough to volunteer taking on the race in the Kern River. Wearing yellow life vests and swim trunks the youth released the Rubber Ducks, each representing a ticket purchaser.

The high school cheerleading squad held a raffle that day as well. And local middle school students were raising money for their upcoming Washington DC tour field trip by selling water and chips.

Students from the Future Farmers of America (FFA) served food to ticket purchasers at lunch, which featured shredded BBQ pork and hot dogs.

Smokey Bear and Sequoia National Forest Service were also vending at the event.
Sean Quezada of Forest Service patrol 47 said, “We’re just here helping out the community with the Rubber Ducky Races, and just passing stuff out for the community. And if they (visitors) have any questions, for fire safety or anything, it will give them some answers.”
