Robert (Bob or Bobby) Wayne Baker, age 72, of Kernville, passed away at his home early Tuesday, February 26. He had recently been having heart issues. Bob was born on April 19, 1946, and was originally from Chicago, Ill.
Bob was a resident of the Kern River Valley for many years before his move to Kernville. He moved to Kernville in 2003 where he resided until his passing. Before moving to the Kern River Valley,
Bob lived in Southern California for many years working for GM as an assembly line worker with many differing skills and in a variety of roles. Many of his friends from Southern California knew him as ‘Bobby’ Baker. After moving to the Kern River Valley, he was a Butcher for Isabella Market, and later at James Store in Kernville. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and driving around town in his vintage Ford Bronco, smiling and waving at everyone he could. Bob has been known by the aliases of Butcher Bob, Fisherman Bob, and more recently, Shuttle Bob. He is remembered by his friends from all over the valley, as well as the hundreds of mountain bikers that he has met while shuttling over the years.
