Red Cross representative Hector, told the Kern Valley Sun on Wednesday July 1, that the Red Cross would be grateful to accept donations from businesses and restaurants willing to donate meals for the affected areas and those staying at shelters.

Volunteers of the American Red Cross worked tirelessly day and night to help assist evacuees of the Borel Fire evacuation shelters, located at Burroughs High School and the Tehachapi Education Center.

Recently the Red Cross has been responding to double the amount of major disasters than they were a decade ago.

More recent wildfires serve to remind all that the central parts of California face increases in length and frequency of incidents during wildfire season

At this time the organization cannot use donations of clothing and they prefer you donate such items to the Salvation Army. Hector said, “The biggest way the public can help us right now is through monetary donations as we continue to provide all the necessary services the public needs.”

About 90 percent of those helping the Red Cross are volunteers. Hector said that thanks to these volunteers, and the contributions of donors, the Red Cross remains prepared for disasters before they occur, in order to assist families in need, and especially those affected by the Borel Fire.
