President’s Message Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce – July

By Marsha Smith

We would like to welcome our new Office and Events Coordinator Anna Kopperman. She is excited to get started and to meet all of you soon at the next General Meeting. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet her, please stop by the office and introduce yourself.

If you missed this year’s fireworks, you missed a beautiful show. Thank you to Steve Spradlin for being out there on Engineer Point every year to make sure all goes well, and thank you Zambelli for a great show. I have been asked over and over if this will be the last year for the fireworks in the Kern River Valley. All I can say at this time is we are trying to be positive, however, without funding it cannot happen with the cost continuing to rise.

Thank you so much to the community who came out on Saturday to the Stars and Stripes Independence Extravaganza at Tank Park. It was a fun event with games and prizes, mini duck races, vendors, food, cold drinks and much more. The pie and watermelon eating contest are a riot to watch. There were sack and three leg races and a tug of war, and the kids couldn’t get enough of the mini duck races. The wagon full of goodies we have been selling tickets on will be given away at this month’s general meeting on July 11. A huge thank you to Mark Preston (Sierra Gateway Markets), Gary Cope (Isabella Market), Jim Wyly (Mt Mesa Market), Taylor Goins (Something Sweet), Donnie Brassell (Nelda’s Diner), Fire and Ice, Steve Spradlin (True Value), Ron Haigler and his group (Celebrate Recovery), the all the face painters, Anna Kopperman, the KRV chamber members and volunteers, and the attendees for making this event happen and be so successful.

I hope to see you all at this month’s general meeting this coming Wednesday, July 11. The speaker is Kern Valley Hospital CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) Mark Gordon. He will provide an update on CSI Momentum (Kaiser Grant for our Controlled Substance Initiative) and an overview on the hospital’s upgrade facilities plan. Come out and listen to his presentation at noon at Paradise Cove. Admission is free, and catered lunch is $10. This month lunch will be catered by Susan Barr, The Coffee Mill. Please RSVP either way, as seating is limited.

Trail’s End Real Estate hosted our Mixer on June 13 and there was a great turnout, lots of food and camaraderie. Thank you, Sherry McAlister, for you wonderful hospitality.

Congratulations to the Kernville Chamber’s new Board of Directors. I attended their installation dinner held at the Meadow at Rivernook Campground, and everyone had a wonderful time. New President Jon Feldschau says the new board has great plans for the future. Again, a huge thank you and kudos to Immediate Past President Cheryl Borthick for so many wonderful and productive years of service.

Remember to not only use your Chamber but also to support your Chamber. We can accomplish great things in numbers. The Chamber office number is 760-379-5236 for information or to RSVP for the general meeting. Please try to arrive early in order to get your lunch prior to starting time.
