President’s Message Dec 04, 2019

By Fred Clark
Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce President

What a great way to start the holiday season with a little snow on Thanksgiving Day. I want to wish all of the residents of the Kern River Valley a fantastic holiday season and wonderful 2020.

This year’s Christmas parade was another fantastic event for our valley. Thank you so much for all who participated in the parade with the chilly weather, which deterred a few groups, organizations and floats from being able to make the event. Our Grand Marshall for this year’s parade was Mr. Joe Ciriello, a person who continues to do so much for the KRV behind the scenes. Along with a special thank you to our sponsors who help make the parade possible as well as our office Coordinator Ms. Jackylyn Wallace and parade Chairperson Ms. Jeannie Verdugo who did a fantastic job putting it all together along with the many volunteers behind the scene Mr. & Mrs. Fred and Elaine Roach, Lana & Hunter Clark, Mark Chambers, our judges Jim Wyly and his crew as we must not forget our Master of Ceremonies Mr. Charlie Busch & Mrs. Trish Lutz, thank you all for your help. A special thanks to Santa Claus (Santa Bruce).

Our congratulations go out to Mr. Bruce Vegter and Ms. Kathy Malouf, who have been selected as the 2020 Man and Woman of the Year. Both are very deserving and dedicated people to the betterment of the Kern River Valley, we had multiple nominees this year and the decision is always tough for the committee to choose the honorees. But with that said, Bruce and Kathy are the two who were clearly deserving of the award for everything that they selflessly do in our community.

They will be honored with a dinner at Paradise Cove Lodge on January 14, 2020. Please RSVP to Ms. Jackylyn Wallace at the Chamber office 760-379-5236. I am expecting a full house so please RSVP as soon as possible to ensure you have a seat.

This month’s general meeting, next Wednesday, 12:00 Noon at Paradise Cove, will be our election of officers for our 2020 year. We have a full slate of candidates and returning board members, I hope to see you all there for the election. Our speaker this month is Daures Stephens who will be seeking your vote in the 2020 elections as he is a candidate for the First District Supervisor. Our current county supervisor is not seeking reelection in 2020 so please come out to hear what our local candidate has to say.
This month’s lunch is being catered by The Pizza Barn in Kernville.
We are still working on reaching our goal of having 100 American flags lining the boulevard for major holidays. It is just $25 per year to sponsor a flag with your name displayed on the flag pole. You can easily be part of the beauty of the flag display by contacting Ms. Jackylyn Wallace at the chamber of commerce office.

Remember to not only use your Chamber but also to support your Chamber. We can accomplish great things in numbers, the Chamber office number is 760-379-5236 for information or to RSVP for the general meeting. Lunch is $10, attendance is free. The location is Paradise Cove Lodge. Time is 12:00 noon, please try to arrive early in order to get your lunch prior to the starting time of the meeting.
