Sierra Shared spaces held a New To Town event, Saturday December 14, at the Kern River Valley Senior Center, with help from other organizations, hoping to make newcomers feel welcome.
Justin Powers, founder of Sierra Shared Spaces said, “The reason we’re doing these events is to just try to increase connection and reduce loneliness in the Kern River Valley.
This is a really fun kind of first version of this event. If it’s something that works out, we’d like to do more of them, in the future,” he said.
Powers wanted to connect people to their neighbors, in partnership with Kern County in the Neighbor to Neighbor program, Kernville Cowork. And Kern Valley Hospital Foundation wanted to give new neighbors welcome packages.
Vendors at the event included the Kern Valley Exchange Club, Narcotics Anonymous, Riverstone Wellness Center, the Lake Isabella & Bodfish Property Owners Association,
Kern Family Health Care, Boys and Girls Club of Kern County Kernville, Kernville Union School District, Kern County Library, Kern Valley Hospital Foundation, the Kern River Valley Bridge Connection, and Sierra Shared Spaces.
