Kern River Floors held its ribbon cutting opening event Monday, September 9 at the storefront, on Lake Isabella Boulevard.

The owner of the flooring business, Allen Moffatt said that he’s had the business for years and relocated to the space where the operation, which was his competitor, Isabella Flooring, used to be located.

“Brad and Chris, owners of the older flooring business, that was located in the same space, went out of business on their own for early retirement.” Moffatt said. “We’ve been competitors for 20 years. So I had the opportunity to move into the building. With the floor layout and the floor plan already in existence, like this, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get out of that smaller shop and into this one.”

President of the Kernville Chamber of Commerce (KCC) Orion Sanders was also attending the event with other Kernville chamber members. Sanders said, “Thanks everybody for coming up. I think it’s great to see more businesses prospering. It’s really important for all of our community members.”

Board member of the KCC, Monica O’Brien presented the business with a plaque, from the KCC.

President of the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce (KRVCC,) Fred Clark thanked Moffatt, and wished him many more years of great success at his new location, also presenting Moffatt with a plaque from the KRVCC.

Moffatt told the Kern Valley Sun that he was “Born, bred, and raised here in the Kern River Valley.”

The 30-year tradesman worked with all the major shops in Bakersfield, moving back to the valley 20 years ago. Moffatt said that he worked side by side with his dad for 17 years and is from a third generation family in the flooring industry. His uncle got his family into the flooring business. “I’m the last one holding down the business. I enjoy my job and it’s the only thing I know how to do,” he said.

With plenty of space, and a spectacular view of the open spaces and mountains just outside his new store window, Moffatt was pleased with his move. “It’s nice to open the windows up every morning because I get to see that view. I lucked out. I don’t think I could have asked for any better location,” he said.

Moffatt is licensed and bonded and welcomes the community to stop by his shop or make an appointment for a free in-home estimate. His shop has a myriad of choices for carpets and flooring at 5412 Lake Isabella Blvd, Lake Isabella. Please feel free to call for an appointment (661) 808-8839.
