Allen Neal Montgomery Sr.
Oct. 4, 1950 - April 18, 2017

Allen was born October 4, 1950, in Johnsondale, Calif., to Jack and Velma Montgomery. He grew up in Johnsondale and graduated high school there in 1968. He received an AA degree from Bakersfield JC.

Allen joined the Tulare County Sheriff's Department in 1973 after being recruited by Kern Valley legend John McNally. John recruited Allen to replace him as the resident deputy upon his retirement. Allen held the resident deputy post for 31 years, retiring in 2004.

Allen was a lifelong resident of the Kern River Valley and was beloved by many. He passed away peacefully at his Kernville home on April 18, 2017.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda Bue Montgomery, in 2009; his daughter, Marilyn O'Leary of Prosser, Wash., in 2007; his mother, Velma, and father, Jack Montgomery, of Mt. Mesa in 2012; and his brother, Dan Montgomery of Mt. Mesa in 1987.

Allen is survived by his son, Allen (Bud) Montgomery, of Kernville; his grandsons, Jack and Ajay, of Mt. Mesa; his grandson, Gavin O'Leary of Yakima, Wash., Paytin O'Leary of USS Makin Island; his brothers, Paul of Monument, Colo., and Mark, of Bakersfield; his sister, Kay Mitchell, of Inyokern; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
