In light of Governor Newsom’s recent announcement that more community testing sites would open across the state, Kern Valley Hospital in partnership with Kern County has begun community-wide testing.
Originally, we were requiring those wishing to be tested to call for an appointment. We are happy to announce we now have an adequate number of tests available to us and an appointment will no longer be necessary.
The hospital will continue providing the PCR test, which is the gold standard for detecting COVID-19. A trained staff member using a nasopharyngeal swab will administer the test.
Testing is available from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. YOU MUST BE IN LINE NO LATER THAN 1:30 p.m. to receive the last test of the day. We want to remind you this test is provided at “no cost” to our community and we encourage those who wish to be tested to take advantage of this opportunity.
The test site has been set up in the front parking lot of Kern Valley Hospital, 6412 Laurel Avenue, across from the park in Mountain Mesa. This is a drive-thru testing site and you will enter the hospital parking lot from McCray Road. You will be required to stay in your car and wait for staff to direct you to pull into the tent. We ask that you put your car in park while you are in the tent.
Please be aware that tests are sent to a lab outside of Kern County to be processed. Please inform us during registration how you would like to receive your results. All patients with positive tests will be notified by a personal phone call from the provider.
We look forward to continuing to serve our community.
